Lilydale Films has wrapped production on two sequels to its LGBTQIA+ romantic comedy 4 First Dates, transforming the feature film into a trilogy within the expanding Flunk cinematic universe.

Written and directed by Ric Forster and produced by Melanie Rowland, the trilogy follows Zara and Jamie from their first dates to the chaos of university house shares.

Sarah Milde and Jordyn Grubisic return in the leading roles, joined by Claire Duncan, Bree-Anna Cummins, Madison Dell’Aquila, Mara Kremmidiotis and Tash Bowers.

The sequels will bring together characters from across the wider Flunk universe, including fan favourites Celeste and Verity, last seen in The Girl That Got Away, and Reece from A Year Later.

“Zara and Jamie’s story gives us an opportunity to explore the funny, awkward and emotionally complicated stages that come after two people decide to begin a relationship,” said writer and director Ric Forster. “Across the trilogy, their relationship deepens as they navigate the realities of living together.”

Forster continued the improvisation-led production approach used on the original film, encouraging the performers to shape dialogue and interactions within the dramatic structure of each scene.

“Improvised dialogue allows the actors to truly listen and respond to one another in the moment,” Forster said. “It creates interruptions, silences, mistakes and unexpected moments of humour that make the relationships feel grounded and authentic. Sarah and Jordyn have developed a wonderfully natural chemistry, and giving them that freedom allowed Zara and Jamie’s relationship to evolve in a way that feels spontaneous and emotionally truthful.”

The two sequels were filmed throughout the Yarra Ranges Shire and the City of Maroondah, continuing Lilydale Films’ commitment to showcasing Victorian locations and creating opportunities for emerging Australian performers and screen practitioners.

The final two films in the 4 First Dates trilogy, 4 Secret Dates and 4 House Mates, will launch in 2027 on Flunk.com.au and will be available first to YouTube channel members, ahead of its general release on YouTube later in the year.
