Lilydale Films adds 3 new LGBTQ coming-of-age features to growing catalogue

Melbourne, Australia – Lilydale Films is thrilled to announce the completion of principal photography on three new feature films set within the “Flunk” universe.
“Preferences,” “4 First Dates,” and “A Year Later” have all wrapped production, bringing new queer coming-of-age stories to the screen. Shot entirely on location within the stunning Yarra Ranges and the vibrant City of Maroondah, these films showcase the breathtaking beauty of Victoria, from the serene orchards of the Yarra Valley to the picturesque Lilydale Lake.
These three new features, written and directed by Ric Forster and produced by Melanie Rowland, continue Lilydale Films’ commitment to innovative storytelling.
For these releases, Forster employed a unique approach, encouraging the cast to improvise much of the dialogue, resulting in remarkably natural and authentic performances. “Prioritizing improvisation during scenes gives the actors incredible freedom to bring their characters to life,” Forster stated. “There’s an authenticity and specificity in the tiniest moments; the way characters interact, talk over each other, and make each other laugh – sometimes unintentionally. We drew from many of the actors’ real-life experiences and incorporated them into the scenes. It allowed a natural chemistry to build on screen that has seen huge success in the American ‘mumblecore’ film movement.”
“Preferences” features Georgia Condon and Grace Gemmell in leading roles, with supporting performances by Keira O’Connor and Harriette St Ledger.
“4 First Dates” stars Sarah Milde and Jordyn Grubisic, alongside Hilary Boyce, Inez Wertheim, Rachel Levin, Bridget Morrison, and Bree-Anna Cummins.
“A Year Later” is led by Mara Kremmidiotis and Kate Nayler.
“We are incredibly excited to expand the ‘Flunk’ universe with these three new feature films, aimed at a slightly older demographic,” said producer Melanie Rowland. “These productions have been a fantastic opportunity to showcase new Australian talent and breathtaking locations to an international audience. We are confident that these stories will resonate with viewers worldwide, continuing to build on the success of ‘Flunk’.”
“Preferences,” “4 First Dates,” and “A Year Later” are slated for release in the second half of 2025, and will be available to audiences globally via streaminG.
